Teryn Bruni, PhDDr. Bruni is a Pediatric Psychologist with expertise in integrated care, school psychology, and applied behavior analysis. Her research interests include evaluating the effectiveness of single-session mental health interventions, the use of professional task-shifting to increase access to mental health support, and the promotion of psychological flexibility in youth. She is focused on establishing a program of research that is responsive to the needs of rural communities. Dr. Bruni worked as a faculty member at Michigan Medicine for four years, where she provided and supervised mental health services within the pediatric primary care setting. During her time at Michigan Medicine, she became interested in the conduct of implementation research to improve patient access to evidence-based mental health interventions within the pediatric primary care setting.

Richard Birnbaum, PhDDr. Birnbaum is a Licensed Psychologist with the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Psychology at the University of Michigan Health. He holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Amherst College, a master’s degree in education from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education, and a PhD in school psychology from Michigan State University. Dr. Birnbaum completed a pre-doctoral internship and a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan Health in Integrated Behavioral Health. Dr. Birnbaum works in the Integrated Behavioral Health program and provides clinical services to children, adolescents, and their families. Dr. Birnbaum's research had previously been focused on analyzing the effectiveness of assessments for individuals with disabilities and behavioral challenges. His current research initiatives are aimed at understanding and improving the patient experience within the integrated behavioral health model and assessing the differences between virtual and traditional face-to-face care.

Membership & Communication Leads
Maribeth Wicoff, PhD, MEdDr. Wicoff served as Membership lead for the IPC-SIG for the last 2 years and is excited to serve another term alongside co-lead with Dr. Qian. Dr.Wicoff was a special education teacher in the School District of Philadelphia for 6 years. During this time, she realized that there was a missing connection between schools, communities, and medical providers. This prompted her to return to graduate school to pursue opportunities to effectively support the whole child. She received her PhD in Pediatric School Psychology from East Carolina University in July of 2018. She completed her internship at MetroHealth Medical Center and her fellowship at Geisinger Medical Center. Maribeth is interested in the collaboration between the medical field and schools and has pursued a career in integrated primary care and is a psychologist in two primary care sites at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She is also an Assistant Professor in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania

Cheng Qian, PhDDr. Cheng Qian is an assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of California San Francisco. She serves as a bilingual (Mandarin Chinese) pediatric psychologist at the Children's Health Center at ZSFG and the clinical training lead for psychology residents and postdoctoral fellows within the integrated behavioral health program. Dr. Qian’s clinical interests include integrated pediatric primary care, early diagnosis and treatment of neurodevelopmental disabilities, and culturally sensitive dyadic interventions. Dr. Qian is passionate about early childhood mental health advocacy. Since her graduate studies at Harvard in 2015, she has worked on statewide policies for preschool aged children, developed organizations to promote children’s emotional wellbeing and dyadic wellness, and have conducted hundreds of trainings for both teachers and parents on supporting young children’s early development. Currently, Dr. Qian serves as a clinical consultant for the UCSF Center for Advancing Dyadic Care in Pediatrics, which aims to expand Early Childhood/Dyadic integrated behavioral health services across California.

Research Lead
Dana Gadaire, PhD
Dr. Gadaire is a licensed psychologist, social worker and board-certified behavior analyst who is dedicated to promoting social and emotional wellbeing among at -risk children and their families. She has established community-based clinical services in local primary care clinics where she works with physicians and nurses to promote access to behavioral health screening and treatment among underserved populations in our area. Dr. Gadaire has published extensively on empirically-supported practices to promote pediatric behavioral health including functional assessment, token-based interventions, and activity schedules. She is particularly interested in the dissemination of community-based supports to address behavioral health disparities among underserved populations.
Trainee/Student Representatives
Kelsey Zaugg, PhDKelsey graduated from Brigham Young University (BYU) and completed her internship at Children’s Mercy Kansas City (CMKC) in the pediatric psychology track. She is entering into a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) where she will be involved in program development for increasing IPC, and integrated behavioral healthcare broadly, in the Las Vegas area.

Kody K Sexton, M.S. EdKody is a fourth-year PhD student in Counseling Psychology at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Prior to starting at UTK, he worked as an academic/career advisor after completing a master’s in higher education. Kody currently works at Cherokee Health Systems as a school-based therapy and behavioral health consultant trainee. He is excited to join the SIG as a Student Co-Rep and looks forward to meeting the group!
